Geomags have extended the Classic toy, with its bars and spheres, adding new mechanical elements that give you more opportunities to play: move it with your hand or with a “mechanical knob” to start chain reactions caused by magnetic attraction or repulsion.

The Geomag Mechanics range stimulates creativity, inventiveness and intelligence through the forces of magnetism and mechanics. In addition to the classic magnetic rods and steel spheres, Geomag Mechanics adds mechanical elements to the constructions increasing the playing possibilities. Parts of the structures are able to rotate, triggering chain reactions generated by magnetic attraction and repulsion.

What our experts think

A fun construction system that uses the physics of magnetism to create amazing functioning models. We loved watching the children explore and investigate with the different pieces; this kind of construction toy teaches children about the important scientific concepts of magnetic forces and poles in a fun way, which compliments their National Curriculum learning.

The children needed a good degree of fine motor control as the pieces are quite small – this refines dexterity and hand-eye coordination; in addition, fitting different pieces and magnetic poles together required logic and problem solving, which are very useful skills for STEM learning (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

The variety of pieces allowed our testers to build creatively and use their imagination – this promotes creativity and develops colour and shape recognition. The children could also follow the instructions in the pack, which were easy to use and they were able to follow them and make successful models without adult help. This encourages important skills in attention and concentration and also builds confidence and a sense of self-achievement once the final model is made.
